Frequently
Asked Questions

COBIT 2019 is a globally recognized framework for governing and managing enterprise IT, developed by ISACA. It provides a set of principles, practices, and tools to help organizations ensure their IT is aligned with business goals, risks are managed, and value is delivered from IT investments. In essence, COBIT acts as a bridge between business requirements and IT solutions. It’s important because effective IT governance (which COBIT enables) leads to better decision-making, optimized use of IT resources, improved compliance with regulations, and overall higher performance of IT operations – all critical factors in today’s technology-driven businesses.

The COBIT 2019 certifications are provided by ISACA, the global professional association that created the COBIT framework. ISACA administers the official exams for COBIT 2019 (such as the COBIT 2019 Foundation exam). They often work with partners (like APMG International) to accredit training organizations, but the actual certification credential comes from ISACA. Wiseman CyberSec is a training provider – we prepare you for the certification exam through our course, but the exam and certification are handled by ISACA or its authorized exam institutes.

No, the exam is not included as part of the training course fee. Wiseman CyberSec provides the training only (along with practice exams and preparation guidance), but you will need to register and pay for the official COBIT 2019 Foundation exam separately with ISACA or an authorized testing provider. The training thoroughly prepares you for the exam, and we’ll guide you through the registration process. The good news is there are no prerequisites to take the COBIT 2019 Foundation exam – you can schedule it as soon as you feel ready after training. Many of our students schedule their exam within a couple of weeks of finishing the course.

There are no mandatory prerequisites to enroll in our COBIT 2019 training. You don’t need prior COBIT knowledge or any other certification. The course starts with the basics of IT governance and COBIT, so beginners can follow along. That said, having some experience or background in IT (such as IT management, IT support, audit, or security) will help you relate the concepts to real scenarios more quickly. We recommend you have a basic understanding of how IT functions within an organization. If you’re completely new to IT, you might spend a bit of extra time on the foundational concepts, but our instructors will ensure everyone gets up to speed.

The COBIT 2019 training is approximately 24 hours of learning in total, which we typically deliver over a 3-day intensive workshop or spread across weekends (for example, 6 hours every Saturday for 4 weeks) – we offer flexible scheduling. You can choose from multiple delivery modes:

  • Live online classes (interactive webinars led by our instructor),

  • In-person classroom sessions (in select locations),

  • 1-on-1 personalized training sessions,

  • or on-site corporate training for organizations.
All modes include live instructor interaction; this is not a self-paced video course. You’ll be learning in real time with the ability to ask questions and participate in discussions. We provide all necessary digital materials, so you can attend from anywhere. If you have scheduling constraints, our team will work with you to find a suitable batch or arrange one-on-one sessions.

COBIT 2019 certification is centered on IT governance, so it opens up career opportunities where organizations need to ensure effective oversight of IT. Job roles that value COBIT knowledge include:

  • IT Governance Analyst or Manager – focusing on implementing governance frameworks (like COBIT) in an enterprise.

  • IT Risk and Compliance Manager – ensuring IT processes meet control requirements and regulatory compliance.

  • IT Auditor – auditing IT processes and controls; COBIT provides a benchmark for many IT audits.

  • IT Quality or Process Improvement Analyst – using COBIT to assess and improve IT service delivery and management processes.

  • GRC (Governance, Risk, Compliance) Consultant – advising companies on governance frameworks and risk management (COBIT expertise is a strong asset here).
According to training providers, after COBIT Foundation you can pursue roles such as IT Governance Specialist, Risk Management Consultant, Compliance Officer, or IT Auditor. If you are already experienced in IT management, COBIT certification can help you move into leadership roles like IT Director or CIO with a governance focus. Keep in mind, landing a specific job will also depend on your overall experience and other qualifications, but COBIT 2019 certainly strengthens your profile for the above roles.

Yes, upon completing the training, Wiseman CyberSec will issue you a Certificate of Completion for the COBIT 2019 course. This certifies that you have undergone professional training in the COBIT 2019 – Governance of Enterprise IT framework. This is separate from the official COBIT 2019 Foundation certification. To receive the official certification from ISACA, you will need to pass the COBIT 2019 Foundation exam. Our course is designed to prepare you for that exam, and our certificate of completion demonstrates your training, which you can show to employers or include in your CV while you work towards the official cert.

COBIT 2019 is an evolution of the COBIT 5 framework. If you are already COBIT 5 certified, COBIT 2019 introduces some new concepts and improvements that are highly beneficial to learn. Differences include:

  • COBIT 2019 has updated governance and management objectives (40 in total) and is more prescriptive in guidance for each objective.

  • Introduction of Design Factors in COBIT 2019, which help tailor the governance system to your enterprise’s specific context (this wasn’t in COBIT 5).

  • COBIT 2019 provides more integration with other frameworks and includes focus area guidance (e.g., small enterprise, cybersecurity).

  • Some principles have been refined or added; COBIT 5 had 5 principles, whereas COBIT 2019 has additional principle guidance (6 for governance system and 3 for framework design).
ISACA has also indicated that COBIT 2019 will be the basis for current and future governance guidance, though COBIT 5 is still supported. Taking this course will update your knowledge to the latest standard and demonstrate to employers/clients that you are current. If you have COBIT 5 certification, there is a COBIT 2019 Bridge course/exam available that specifically targets the differences. However, our COBIT 2019 course covers the framework in full, so it will serve both as a refresher and an update for COBIT 5 professionals. Many COBIT 5 certified folks take COBIT 2019 training to stay up-to-date.
