Course Curriculum (Based on Official SY0-701 Exam Objectives)
Our CompTIA Security+ curriculum is organized into five modules, aligned with the official SY0-701 exam domains. Each module includes lectures, hands-on labs, and review quizzes:
General Security Concepts
General Security Concepts – Foundational Principles Begin with the building blocks of security. This module introduces key cybersecurity terminology and concepts to establish a strong foundation. Topics include the CIA triad (Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability), authentication and authorization (AAA), non-repudiation, and security control types (technical, administrative, physical; preventive, detective, etc.). We also cover basic cryptography concepts and the idea of Zero Trust security. By the end of this module, you’ll understand fundamental principles that inform all other security practices.
Threats, Vulnerabilities & Mitigations
Threats, Vulnerabilities & Mitigations – Understanding Attacks and Defense Dive into the world of cyber threats and learn how to defend against them. In this module, you’ll study various threat actors (hackers, insiders, nation-states) and their motives, as well as common attack vectors (phishing, malware, social engineering, denial-of-service, etc.). We explore different types of vulnerabilities in software, networks, and human processes, and how attackers exploit them. More importantly, you’ll learn mitigation techniques: from patch management and system hardening to network segmentation and security monitoring. Hands-on labs in this section might include malware analysis in a safe environment, identifying vulnerabilities with scanning tools, and implementing countermeasures to neutralize threats.
Security Architecture
Security Architecture – Designing Secure Networks & Systems Learn how to build and maintain secure architectures for both on-premises and cloud environments. This module covers secure network design principles (using firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and proxy servers), and secure system design (hardening servers and endpoints). You’ll understand the security considerations for different architectures such as client-server, cloud services, virtualization, and IoT. We also delve into identity and access management in enterprise settings – including concepts like single sign-on (SSO), identity providers, and federation. Through labs, you might configure a virtual network with segmented subnets for security, set up secure Wi-Fi encryption, or implement access control policies in a cloud platform. By mastering security architecture, you’ll be able to recommend and implement solutions that protect an organization’s infrastructure and data.
Security Operations
Security Operations – Maintaining and Monitoring Security Focus on the operational side of cybersecurity – the ongoing tasks that keep organizations secure. In this module, you’ll learn about establishing secure baselines for systems, conducting regular vulnerability assessments and penetration testing (at a fundamental level), and using tools to continuously monitor security (such as SIEM for log analysis). We cover the processes for incident response – how to detect, triage, contain, eradicate, and recover from security incidents – as well as basics of digital forensics (to preserve evidence). You’ll also study disaster recovery and business continuity planning to prepare for worst-case scenarios. Interactive exercises include analyzing logs to detect an intrusion, practicing an incident response simulation, and drafting an incident report. By the end, you’ll be equipped to handle security events and maintain a proactive security posture in any organization.
Security Program Management & Oversight
Security Program Management & Oversight – Governance, Risk, and Compliance The final module broadens your perspective to the management and oversight of security within an organization. Here, you’ll learn about security governance: creating and enforcing security policies, standards, and procedures. We discuss risk management techniques – identifying risks, performing risk assessments, and choosing risk treatment options (accept, mitigate, transfer, avoid). You’ll become familiar with common compliance regulations and frameworks (for example, GDPR for data protection, PCI-DSS for payment security, and NIST frameworks) and understand how organizations stay compliant. This module also emphasizes security awareness training for personnel, vendor management, and the importance of audit and assessment reports. Through case studies, you may develop a basic security policy for a fictitious company or analyze a scenario to pinpoint compliance gaps. This knowledge prepares you to not only implement security measures, but also to communicate and manage security at the organizational level.
Each module closely maps to the Security+ exam content, ensuring no topic is left uncovered. You’ll get module-wise quizzes and assignments to reinforce what you learned. By the end of the curriculum, you’ll have a 360° understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals, fully ready for the Security+ exam and real-world security challenges.
Labs, Practice Tests & Study Tools
This course isn’t just passive learning – you’ll actively engage with the material through labs and practice, so you can retain knowledge better and build confidence:
Hands-On Labs
Every major topic is accompanied by a hands-on lab exercise. Our labs are conducted in a virtual environment (accessible through your web browser) where you can safely experiment with real systems and cyber scenarios. For example, you’ll practice tasks like configuring a Windows server with group policies for security, capturing and analyzing network traffic with Wireshark, scanning a network for vulnerabilities with Nmap, and using a sandbox to dissect malware behavior. These labs are guided with step-by-step instructions and scenarios that mirror what you might encounter in an actual cybersecurity job. By performing these tasks yourself, you’ll bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Practice Questions
You’ll have access to an extensive bank of 500+ practice questions that cover all Security+ domains. Questions range from basic concept checks to challenging scenario-based ones. They include multiple-choice questions similar to what you’ll see on the exam, as well as performance-based question practice (e.g., matching terms to definitions, placing steps of an incident response process in order, or configuring a firewall rule in a simulation). The question bank is available on our learning platform for unlimited practice. You can filter questions by topic to focus on areas where you want more review.
Mock Exams
Test your exam readiness with full-length mock exams. We provide five simulated Security+ exams, each with around 90 questions and a 90-minute timer, just like the real test. After each mock exam, you’ll receive a detailed score report breaking down your performance in each domain, along with explanations for every question (why the correct answer is right and why the wrong ones are not). These simulated exams help reduce anxiety and improve your time management. By the time you attempt the official exam, you’ll be familiar with the pressure and pacing of the real thing.
